depend的基本意思是“吊”“悬”“挂”,作“依赖于”“依靠”解时主要指某种要出现的情况、未知的事实及待作出的决定等有关的事物的不确定性。引申可指信心十足或对某人充分相信。
depend多与on〔upon〕连用,只有当主语是it/that时,才可省略on〔upon〕,且只能接疑问词从句,其他情况都用作普通不及物动词。
